Mission Statement
Reach Out and Read RI prepares the state's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with pediatricians to prescribe books and encouraging families to read aloud together. Established in 1999 with 5 participating sites, we now reach more than 35,000 children ages 6 months to 5 years old at 70 clinical sites across the state, distributing more than 73,000 books at well-visits. Although we aim to ensure school readiness for all children, our program specifically targets lower income families as research consistently demonstrates that children living in poverty are at greater risk for reading challenges.
