World Food Program USA (WFP USA) works to solve global hunger, building a world where everyone has the food and nutrition needed to lead healthy, productive lives. WFP USA raises support for these efforts in the United States by engaging individuals, organizations and businesses, shaping public policy and generating resources for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency solving hunger worldwide. In 2012, WFP delivered food to 97 million people in 80 countries with food assistance. Beyond easing urgent food shortages resulting from disasters and emergencies, WFP works with global governments, NGO partners and private sector players to address the immediate needs and underlying causes of hunger through a comprehensive strategy. Many programs use food to drive social and economic development so that communities can become self-sufficient in supplying adequate food to their own populations.
