Mission Statement
Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) remains dedicated to its mission to provide the high-quality instruction, well-rounded educational experience and vital support services students need to excel in both the classroom and community. The district’s goals for student achievement include having every grade 3 student reading and comprehending at the proficient level; every grade 8 English Learner (EL) re-designated as Fluent English Proficient; every grade 9 student demonstrating a mastery of algebra concepts and applications; and every grade 12 student graduating college- and career-ready. The 1852 Foundation serves as the district’s fund-raising arm and has long dedicated itself to securing the grant support and other resources needed to enhance educational opportunities for Stockton’s highly diverse, predominantly lower socio-economic student population. The organization takes its name from SUSD’s founding year, when members of the city council pitched in their own money to establish ta community public school system in the community. The Foundation is overseen by the Stockton Unified School Board, managed by the 1852 Executive Committee and is legally incorporated and on file with the State of California.
