Mission Statement

The mission of Horse Feathers Equine Rescue is to provide:???~ A humane alternative for abandoned, abused, unwanted, neglected, or slaughter bound horses.???~ Medical care, food, gentling, and training depending on individual circumstances, allowing rescued horses to be potentially easier to adopt.???~ Shelter to horses in need of such care.???~ Adoption facilitation to place rehabilitated horses in caring homes where they can lead productive lives, and???~ Sanctuary for those animals deemed to be un-adoptable as a place to live out their lives in a humane fashion.??????Horse Feathers' secondary purpose is to provide education to prospective and current horse owners, youth, or any interested party seeking to educate themselves about horses (equine husbandry) to help prevent equine neglect and abuse. The rescue also sponsors and promotes educational, charitable, and cultural events for disadvantaged children. We have now implemented our VA Equine Assisted Therapy Program where the veterans come to work with the horses and help at the facility. We hope that the overall goal of occupational therapy in community mental health is to help people develop the skills and obtain the supports necessary to independent, interdependent, productive living. Particular emphasis is given to interventions that result in improved quality of life and decrease hospitalization. Equine/human interactions can offer possibilities of a more fulfilling life by Promoting one's self-satisfaction through exploration and learning with rules as well as trial and error experiences. Providing opportunities to develop human & equine relationships with trust, learn limitations w/in them in addition to possibilities for second chances. Developing the ability to trusting one's instincts and common sense during challenging situations. Upon this recognition, one can learn to adapt as needed to maintain and succeed in human/equine & human/human relationships.
