The HALO Trust (HALO) is a charity with the mission to lead the effort to protect lives and restore livelihoods threatened by landmines and the deadly debris of war. Founded in 1988, HALO locates and destroys landmines, cluster bombs and other explosive items, and dangerous stockpiles of weapons and ammunition so that some of the world's most vulnerable people can return home, plant their crops, and live in safety. HALO currently employs over 12,500 locally recruited staff in over 30 countries and territories around the world, who work to make their own communities safe following a conflict. This work creates safe and secure environments, offers opportunities to rebuild lives and livelihoods, and prepares the way for development and long-term stability. Millions of families have been able to return to their homes safely, but there is still much work to do.
