CONCERNS OF POLICE SURVIVORS

Every 58 hours, a law enforcement officer in the United States dies in the line of duty. In the wake of such tragedy, there are spouses, children, mothers, fathers, siblings, extended family and co-workers left to rebuild their lives and develop their “new normal” as they learn to move forward in memory of their hero. They are survivors. Our mission is to never forget and walk the journey of hope on the road of recovery with every member. Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) is a 501c 3 charity governed by a National Board with over 47,000 volunteer members and 50 chapters throughout the country. Our chapter, Central Florida COPS, is a fully volunteer based organization developed by local survivors and relies entirely upon donations to fulfill our mission. All money received from donations fund hands-on programs which allow survivors to receive support from peers who have experienced the gravity of their loss, attend sessions designed for their survivor needs and obtain resources to help them through the process of grief and coping. Additionally, assistance is provided for survivors to travel to state and national memorials such as Police Week in Washington D.C. where they can continue to honor their hero and seek fellowship from other survivors from around the country. Our chapter covers all law enforcement agencies and the families of fallen heroes who reside within Brevard, Flagler, Highlands, Indian River, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties. The love and support from our community continues to shine a light in the darkness and ensures our heroes will never be forgotten.
