QUEER WOMEN OF COLOR MEDIA ARTS PROJECT-QWOCMAP
Mission Statement
QWOCMAP engages our marginalized community in one of the most visible and expensive art forms. Filmmaking is at the heart of our ability to survive and thrive. Film has the ability to transform by giving voice to the unheard and the forcibly silenced. It is extremely powerful because it is the means by which we see our humanity. In traditional media, our images are extremely limited and often destructively stereotypical. QWOCMAP creates equity in film and media arts and diversifies the cultural fabric of American society by providing access, agency, and voice for our community to create new films that authentically reflect our experiences and lives. QWOCMAP is a filmmaker-founded and artist/activist-run organization that makes film accessible to artists and audiences. Goal: Increase the visibility of queer women of color, gender nonconforming and transgender people of color.
