BACK TO THE BASICS
Mission Statement
Back to the Basics (B2TB) is a nonprofit corporation established in 2016 for charitable and educational purposes. Back to the Basics aims to provide outreach and interruption services to help reduce gun violence and support Chicagoans who are high-risk to be perpetrators or victims of gun violence. It is designed to provide year-round opportunities in sports such as basketball, indoor fitness and swimming to youth in the inner-city communities. Back to the Basics also intentionally aims at serving the social and emotional needs of students with learning and physical abilities different than the general student population. B2TB specifically meets the need of local schools’ lack of resources to provide recreational and physical education activities to students by forging partnerships with schools to provide these activities at minimum monthly, year-round, and after-school. It utilizes trained volunteers to guide, mentor, instruct, coach and support youth participants in these sport and recreational activities. Activity locations include various park districts, schools and gyms within the Chicagoland area. Understanding the limited amount of resources for youth in inner-city Chicago as well as local schools, no fees are charged for participation.
