LEAD GIRLS OF NC INC
Mission Statement
Change a Girl. Change a Community. Change the World. Learning Everyday Accomplishing Dreams (LEAD) Girls was created in 2016 to give pre-teen girls facing multiple challenges a safe space to feel supported and to learn how to make choices to improve their lives. Our mission drives us to change the individual lives of girls in Winston-Salem, NC, by providing and creating broader, more inclusive access to tools and resources through innovative leadership and personal development programming for success, long term care, and financial stability that support our girls and their families. We work to achieve our mission through our LEAD Girls workshops offered bi-weekly in-school and in the community, one-day and multi-week long leadership and summer programs, and community service projects completed by our girls. We have grown from a single workshop with a half-dozen girls during the 2015-2016 school year to a year-round program serving 353 girls in 2023 with 11,531 support hours. The girls in 2023 were from 41 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools with 99% identifying as African American, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, or two races. Myesha said it best: “LEAD helped me learn how to be a leader and make space for everyone.”
