Mission Statement
Founded in 1968, New Way Academy is Arizona’s only independent, non-profit school for students with learning differences in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. The mission of New Way Academy is to educate students with learning disabilities to fulfill their potential. All students at New Way Academy have a diagnosed learning difference, often referred to as a learning disability. The most common learning difference at New Way is severe dyslexia, followed by attention deficit disorder. Many students exhibit signs of both learning differences. Other types of learning differences experienced by students at New Way include dyscalculia, dysgraphia, executive function challenges, and Asperger’s Syndrome. Most students have come to New Way after they have experienced significant challenges in another educational setting, either due to academic or social struggles. The learning profile of each New Way student is unique, as is the educational plan that is developed for each student upon enrollment. By providing state of the art opportunities for remediation, such as on-site reading therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, as well as rigorous academic courses and opportunities to engage in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, New Way Academy seeks to empower students with learning differences to understand and overcome their areas of challenge while building upon their areas of strength. As a result, New Way develops confident lifelong learners who lead enhanced, productive lives and serve as positive examples of what individuals with learning differences can achieve.
