Mission Statement
Southern Nye County Search and Rescue mission statement has two (2) main parts. Its primary mission is to respond to and execute any search and rescue operation in Southern Nye County, Nevada and surrounding jurisdictions as directed by the Sheriffs Office. The second mission is the continual training of the Officers and Volunteers to constantly improve the unit’s capabilities and techniques to accomplish the first mission. Southern Nye County Search and Rescue first started in 1963 with a small group of volunteers called the Jeep Posse. Later in the mid-seventies the unit became part of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. Currently our unit is broken down into specialty teams such as Ground Team (man-trackers) Rope Team, ATV Team (quads), 4 Wheel Drive Team, Communication Team, Map Team, and the newly formed Drone Team. Our volunteers have varied backgrounds: retired law enforcement, retired military, medical professionals, avid outdoor enthusiasts and ordinary citizens just wanting to give back to our community. Our volunteers assist and support many community events and provide on-going training programs to our members. SAR volunteers are available 24/7 and provide Search and Rescue responses as directed by the Nye County Sheriff’s Department.
